[Huitong Press] On December 21, 2014 Peking University HSBC Business School held its annual New Year’s party for master’s degree candidates. This year’s theme was   “Ideal-Practice” and was staged at the Overseas Chinese Town Intercontinental Hotel grand banquet hall.

Professor Hai Wen welcomed everyone, remarking that all were here to “not only celebrate the achievements in the past, but also to jointly plan the blueprint for the future.” He continued that since PHBS was founded ten years ago, it has been pursuing the goal of building “the military academy in the business community” and is dedicated to the frontier of academic research in economics, finance and management. PHBS accomplished a great deal in 2014 and held several major events: Peking University Global Finance Forum, Global Deans Forum, and the China Economics Annual Conference. He said that through academic discussion and exchange, faculty and students have broadened their horizons, and the school has increased its influence in the graduate school community. Professor Hai stressed that everyone should take 2015 as a new beginning, set high hopes for it, and at the same time to keep a down-to-earth manner. He said that was the reason why the theme of the new-year party was “Ideal-Practice.” Specifically, the school will enhance teaching quality, improve students’ research capacity, and build an efficient managerial team. Moreover, more seminars and international exchange activities will be held to further increase the school’s internationalization. Professor Hai hoped that all faculty and students would work together towards the goal of making PHBS a world-renowned business school in five years.

Then the party began with a rock band formed by 2014 students from the finance and economics double degree program performing Wangfei.

Next, students from the 2013 management and economics class performed the Chinese Classical dance Yushengyan.

After that, four 2014 students from the management and finance class played the classical tango Yibuzhiyao on piano, the accordion and the violin.

Then, foreign students added to the Christmas atmosphere of the party by dancing to Macarena dressed in red and white as the men wore Santa hats and white beards.

The show lasted for an hour and featured many talented PHBS students.

Dinner began after the show, during which professors and students lifted their wineglasses and celebrated the upcoming Christmas and New Year. Then several guests and student representatives from each program stepped on stage and proposed a toast, expressing their love for PHBS and their wish for its bright future. They also thanked PHBS for providing them with a high-level platform for self-development.

Then came the exciting lottery prize drawings. Also during the banquet, students individually proposed toasts to the seniors and their fellow students. They expressed their gratitude for each other and their best wishes for the coming New Year. Moreover, they shared their harvest and gains in the past year with each other, and pledged their determination to work hard to pursue their goals together in the coming year.
