July ushered in the graduation season, with graduates donning caps and gowns to celebrate their achievements and bid farewell to their universities. On July 3, PHBS held its graduation ceremony featuring student and faculty speakers. The next day, PKU Shenzhen Graduate School held its commencement with 434 PKU students participating. Following are photos from both events.

The video about graduates’ wishes marked the opening of PHBS 2015 graduation ceremony. Prof. Ren Ting and Prof. Kevin Chastagner delivered the opening speeches and acknowledged the graduates’ achievements, wishing them career success and making a difference for China. This was followed by speeches from two student representatives.

PHBS student Yu Miao expresses her gratitude to faculty members
 
Yu Miao expressed her gratitude to faculty members, who have diverse backgrounds, for their efforts to encourage students and inspire them to change the world. She said that she felt grateful that PHBS provided great resources and academic activities for students to grow and achieve excellence. 


PHBS student Federico Paolucci (Italy) gives a graduation speech
 
Italian student Federico Paolucci shared his story in China: how he got to know the culture of this ancient country and gradually fell in love with it. He was also deeply impressed by Chinese young people’s vitality at PHBS and the numerous internship opportunities open to international students.
 
Dean Hai Wen presents a graduation gift to students
 
PHBS Dean Hai Wen gave students a copy of his calligraphy work as a graduation gift, on which he wrote “To the Youth” with the image of Baymax (an inflatable robot in the Disney film Big Hero 6). He said that graduates’ efforts and achievements had enriched their own lives and will brighten their futures.

Bai Zhiqiang, Deputy Secretary of PKU Shenzhen, hosts the commencement

The PKU Shenzhen schoolwide commencement was held the next day at the Shenzhen University Town stadium, in which 297 full-time PHD graduates, 88 MBA graduates and 67 EMBA graduates participated. The video “Southern PKU, Where Dreams Start,” with photo montages and inspirational text, kicked off the ceremony.

     Liu Ying from the School of Environment and Energy (SEE) shares her study experience 

        Prof. Mark Feldman from the School of Transnational Law (STL) provides remarks

Commencement speakers included Student Liu Ying from the School of Environment and Energy (SEE), Prof. Mark Feldman from the School of Transnational Law (STL), and Wang Fang, Secretary of Green Pine Care Foundation (GPF). GPF is a non-profit foundation that focuses on helping Chinese rural children to get access to better education. Prof. Feldman remarked that students at PKU Shenzhen will get greater opportunities and advantages in the next few years since PKU’s overall strength and reputation are on the rise, and Shenzhen will emerge as one of the top international metropolises.

PKU Vice President Gao Song delivers a closing speech

PHBS Dean Hai Wen and PKU Vice President Gao Song also provided remarks. Prof. Hai reminded graduates of their responsibilities as PKU students and encouraged them to aim high and make further progress. Prof.Gao emphasized that students should bravely move forward and take concrete actions to pursue their dreams.


      Representatives of outstanding graduates receive their certificates of honor

At the end of this commencement, Wu Dongyun, Deputy Dean of PKU (SZ), honored ‘Outstanding Graduates of 2015’, including 32 PKU (SZ) outstanding graduates and 16 Beijing outstanding graduates.
