“The Future World Leaders Summit——Model Davos Forum” Completed Successfully

On the evening of April 30th, 2009, “The Future World Leaders Summit——Model Davos Forum” was held in the moot court. The activities, including lectures and debates, were jointly organized by the Capital Markets Association (CMA) of Peking University and Shenzhen and Hong Kong Economics and Finance Association of Peking University (SHEF). The debate activities involved six teams from Peking University, Tsinghua University and Harbin Institute of Technology in University Town. On behalf of the United States, Japan, China, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, the six teams launched a heated debate on “whether to create a super-sovereign international reserve currency”. Prof. Vincent Chang, vice dean of PHSB, Thomas Weidenbach, professor of Peking University School of Law, Dr. Zhiyong Tu of PHSB and Shaoguang Luo, Director of Student Service Department of Shenzhen Graduate School participated in the activity as guests.

 

The debate was moderated by Lin Tang, a student at PHSB. The event was conducted entirely in English, and competition was divided into five segments. The first segment was three-minute statement made by representatives of each country. Then following the second segment——one-on-one debate. The next segment was free debate. Then it came to the forth segment of answering questions from guests. The last segment was three-minute summary. Each team was composed of three debaters from different majors, such as Economics, Finance, Law, Science and etc. After a fierce competition lasting two and half hours, Zhibing Liu, Cixing Chen, and Jia Lu won “Best Team” award. Jinquan Yu, Jing Li, and Na Su won the “Popular Team” award. The “Best Debater” award was given to Jing Lu from Harbin Institute of Technology.

 

The whole activity, debaters and organizers included, was highly praised by Prof. Vincent Chang. He also encouraged more activities to promote interaction among students in University Town.
