Opening Ceremony for the New PHBS Building

On the morning of November 21st, the opening ceremony of the Peking University HSBC Business School’s new building was held outside the newly unveiled building. The square in front of the new HSBC building quickly filled with people. Representatives from the Shenzhen Municipal Government, HSBC and Peking University as well as faculty, students and alumni from the HSBC Business School gathered to witness and celebrate this historic moment. The former president of Peking University and Council Chairman of HSBC School Xu Zhihong, Executive Vice President of Peking University Wu Zhipan, Party Member of Development and Reform Commission and Secretary of the Party Committee Wang Tingzhu, President & CEO of HSBC (China) Co., Ltd. Huang Bijuan, Director of Sustainable Development of HSBC Asia Pacific Region Ms. Malini Thadni, Director of the Management Office of Shenzhen University Town Wu Huiqiong, Deputy Secretary of Peking University and the Secretary of the Party Committee of PKU Shenzhen Bai Zhiqiang, representatives from the design and equipment supply companies, President of the EMBA Alumni Association of Peking University HSBC Business School Mr. Liang Bing and all faculty and full-time students of PHBS attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by the Deputy Director of the Council of Peking University and Dean of PHBS Hai Wen.


President and CEO of HSBC (China) Co., Ltd., Ms. Huang Bijuan delivered a speech on behalf of HSBC. In 2008, when Peking University celebrated its 100th anniversary, HSBC and PKU decided to jointly construct a world-class business school by combining academic excellence of Peking University and the achievements in business of HSBC. Over the past five years, the HSBC Business School has successfully graduated students who have become leaders in the business world. Ms. Huang Bijuan pointed out that education is the foundation of China and the road to achievement. She also wished for the HSBC Business School to achieve further accomplishments in scientific researches.



Executive Vice President of Peking University Wu Zhipan delivered a speech on behalf of Peking University. He said, 12 years ago, Peking University and Shenzhen Government jointly started the construction of PKU Shenzhen with the expectation of becoming a leader in academics by fully realizing the advantages of top students and faculty, geographical location and economics of PKU Shenzhen. He went on to say that the cooperation of HSBC and Peking University in founding the HSBC Business School in 2008 was simply done at the right place and at the right time. After five years of development, business leaders have graduated from the HSBC Business School have made a striking impact in fields of finance, management and market development. Wu Zhipan also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the government, companies, faculty members and parents that have been continuously supporting Peking University. He hoped that the new students would inherit the unique spirit of PKU, seize new opportunities and become pillars of the community and China.



Former President of Peking University and Present Council Chairman of HSBC Business School Xu Zhihong, also shared his personal memories of PHBS. Xu Zhihong witnessed the founding of the HSBC Business School firsthand, which was a historic moment not only for PKU Shenzhen but also for Peking University. After years of hard work, the HSBC Business School has explored new methods in education and attracted attention from home and abroad that is proven by the substantial amount of full-time international students currently at PHBS. Xu Zhihong stated that it was his dream for PKU Shenzhen to become more open and internationalized with the HSBC Business School leading by example. Xu also pointed out that every brick of HSBC’s new building was a result of PHBS Dean Hai Wen’s continuous devoted efforts. Professor Xu stated that he hoped that these new students would treasure their time for study and make full use of the advantages of PKU Shenzhen to achieve further triumphs in their pursuit of knowledge.



Professor Hai Wen expressed his gratitude to all people who contributed to PHBS and all the faculty members and students of PHBS on behalf of Peking University.



At the end of the ceremony, the government representatives, business representatives, Peking University school leaders, faculty members and students from HSBC Business School gathered for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Afterwards, guests entered the new building for the first time.
