On December 13, 2014 the 14th China Economics Annual Conference job fair was held at Peking University HSBC Business School. The job fair offers Chinese faculty, who are engaged in economics teaching and research a channel for recruitment. The job fair is based on the practice of international academic conferences to help make more effective matches between the colleges and  faculty talent through Internet and on-site communication.

Sixteen universities and research institutions offered more than 100 jobs.  Participating institutions included Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hubei University, Shanxi Normal University, Hohai University, Shanghai University, Qingdao University, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, South China University of Technology, Nanjing University of Finance and Economics, and Hubei University of Economics.

One of the conference attendees, who holds a PhD in economics from Xiamen University, said that she “came here to feel the atmosphere of the faculty recruitment in advance and to learn the requirements of the universities.”

The job fair was aimed at not only experienced economic scholars, but also for recently graduated Ph.Ds. According to Hu Kun, who recruits for Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, this year the university is focusing more on research ability. Hu said, however, that they didn’t exclude applicants who didn’t graduate from universities that belong to “211” or “985” rankings. Instead, they focused on research ability.
