PHBS Delegation Visits European Leading Universities to Enhance International Cooperation

 A delegation from Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) recently visited nine European universities to ensure ongoing relationships for current student exchange programs, consider new exchange partners, improve awareness of the school among European faculty and students, and enhance other forms of international cooperation.

PHBS Dean Hai Wen and Nicole Chastagner, head of international affairs, and Zhang Yishuang, international affairs coordinator visited universities in Italy and France between October 3 and 7. They talked with faculty and students from Collegio Carlo Alberto, University of Turin, University of Florence, University of Bergamo, Bocconi University and the University of Milan (Italy); iaeLyon School of Management, ESSEC Business School, and EDC Paris Business School (France).

Currently, PHBS has student exchange programs with the University of Milan, iaeLyon School of Management and EDC Business School Paris. Discussions during the visits there focused on in-depth international cooperation, ranging from expanding the number of exchange students, setting up faculty exchange opportunities, to promoting research cooperation. Visits to the rest of the schools were to explore new international exchange cooperation with PHBS.

Dean Hai said that Europe is of great importance to PHBS when it comes to the goal of further internationalization, and PHBS is interested in developing relationships with top business schools. In fact, PHBS Assistant Professor Domenico Tarzia, who is from Italy,  is a graduate of Bocconi University, and two PHBS graduates are pursuing their doctor’s degree in Economics and Finance at this university. PHBS has signed a memorandum of agreement for partnering on the Executive Development Program (EDP) with ESSEC Business School whose master’s of management program is ranked third worldwide, according to a 2015 report in the Financial Times.

During the trip, Dean Hai spoke on “China’s Economy in the ‘New Normal’: Current Economic Situation and Future Development” at the University of Turin, University of Florence, iaeLyon School of Management , ESSEC Business School, and EDC Paris Business School. He touched on the speed, structure and engine behind the current economy. The talk sparked a heated discussion among faculty and students on Sino-Europe economic relationships and the Chinese economy.

Chastagner and Zhang met undergraduate and graduate students, sharing information about fields of graduate study at PHBS, including the master’s programs, MBA program, and reviewed exchange program opportunities.
Though a young institution, having celebrated its 10 year anniversary in 2014, PHBS has set its sights on world-wide recognition. The past few years have witnessed an increasing number of international students admitted to PHBS, and enhanced exchanges with the world-renowned universities. Recent visits to nine European leading higher institutions will further expand PHBS’ presence in the world’s higher education cooperation and its level of internationalization.
