Dean Receive CES's Lifetime Achievement Award

Hai Wen, dean of Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS), was presented with the CES Lifetime Achievement Award during the official opening of the CES 2015 annual conference on June 13 at Chongqing University in Chongqing, China. It is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the Chinese Economists Society,

                                     

The Chinese Economists Society (CES) is a non-profit academic organization registered in the United States. The CES promotes market-based reforms and open-door policy, encourages academic exchanges, and develops modern economic education in China. Since its founding, the organization has played an important role in bringing about fundamental changes in China’s economic system by influencing economic policy making in the country. A number of the Society’s members and former officials have been actively involved in China’s economic transition and reforms.

                               

Prof. Hai graduated from Peking University in China with a B.A. and earned his M.A. and Ph.D in economics from the University of California, Davis. He is also one of the founding members of the CES and its 8th president. Further, he was a leading contributor to studies on China's economy during his stay in the US. Hai lectured at various universities in the US then became a tenured associate professor at Forte Lewis College, Colorado State University. In 1994, he returned to China and created the China Center for Economic Research with Justin Yifu Lin and Yi Gang of Peking University. Currently, Hai is vice chairman of the Peking University Council, dean of HSBC Business School, and chancellor of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School.

Hai’s research has focused on international trade, development economics, and China’s economic transition. He has been published in numerous academic books and journal articles in English and Chinese, including American Economics Review, NBER Working Papers, International Economic Review, and China Economic Review. Hai has frequently delivered invited speeches to researchers, government officials, and business leaders on China’s economic reforms, development, and international trade.
