General Introduction

PHBS-CJBS Global Pitch Competition is a platform jointly launched by Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) and Cambridge University Judge Business School (CJBS).

The theme of this year is "New Era, New Approach"
The key events include: Kick-off meetings, Demo days, Semi-finals, Finals, Training camp, and Bay Area International Entrepreneurship Conference.


The 2022 Global Pitch Competition will take place in University Town of Shenzhen from June to November. It plans to focus on 7 core tracks and select 27 projects for incubation from over 200 projects, with priority given to angel and Series A rounds.

The finals will be judged by renowned domestic investors, industry experts, and renowned professors from business schools. There will also be sharing and discussion on topics such as international innovation and entrepreneurship, innovative talent training and business development.

The competition aims to help participating startups gain capital attention, link up with industry resources and provide empowerment and coaching, as well as promote the exchange of innovation and entrepreneurship between Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area
and the international community.

2. Project Application
Application period: Starting from June 2022

3. Roadshow
 Time: Starting from June 2022, the roadshow will be scheduled according to the tracks.
 Format: online roadshows, consisting of a 7-minute project demonstration and a 13-minute question section from the judges. We encourage the founders or CEOs to participate in the roadshow. The winning project will proceed to the semi-finals.
 
4. Semi-finals / Finals
Time: November 2022
Format: The domestic competition is planned to be conducted offline in Shenzhen in compliance with the epidemic prevention policy. The international teams who cannot present in Shenzhen will attend the online competition. Each contestant will have a 3-minute project demonstration and a 3-minute Q&A session from the judges.
 
5. Acceleration Camp
Date: November 2022 (lasting one year)
Format: The first accelerated camp will be held right after the final round. All projects that make it to the semi-finals are eligible to participate in the Acceleratation Camp and receive a resource pack provided by our business partners.

FAQ
1. How many rounds does the competition have? How should I qualify for the next round?
The competition has four rounds: Profile Screening, Online Roadshow, Semi-Final, and Grand Final. In the profile screening, the competition judging committee will evaluate the projects based on the project information submitted, combined with the referrals and information from public channels. Then the committee will invite qualified projects to participate in the online roadshow. Six founders will be invited to share their projects in each round of the online roadshow. The top two will be qualified for the semi-finals. The finalists of the semi-finals will be comprised of projects which have advanced from the online roadshow and projects recommended by our partners. 27 teams in total will have the opportunity to participate in the semi-final competition. The top 10 teams from the semi-finals will advance to the grand final.
2. Who are the judges of the competition?
In the online roadshow stage, 10-12 judges will participate in each online roadshow. The jury team consists of investors from well-known venture capital institutions, investment leaders of leading companies in related industries, technical experts, and well-known professors and entrepreneurial mentors from Peking University HSBC Business School. The semi-final and final judges will be composed of top domestic investors and industry experts.
3. How to evaluate the projects?
The competition is committed to building a real display platform for investors and potential customers for entrepreneurs. It is expected that each participating team can receive real investment feedback and intentions. The Organizing Committee will suggest that the judges rate the project based on five aspects: market situation, product solutions, business model, growth potential, and team competences. At the same time, investors and judges from different backgrounds are welcome to combine their overall judgment on the industry and the project and give a comprehensive evaluation.
4. What is the format of the roadshow? How do overseas teams participate?
During the online roadshow stage, participating teams can directly participate in the roadshow through the online platform. Each team will have 7 minutes to present their entrepreneurial projects, and another 13 minutes to accept questions and comments from the judges. Overseas teams can also directly participate in the roadshow through the online platform. We have dedicated online simultaneous interpreters to help overseas teams better display and communicate. In the semi-finals and finals, we will try our best to invite qualified teams to participate in the competition offline in Shenzhen according to the epidemic policy.
5. How to attend the competition?

6. What materials need to be prepared for registration?
1) Fill in online: company and contact information, project introduction, founding team, financing history, etc.
2) Upload documents: the latest business plan for the project and upload it in PDF format
7. Do I need to pay a fee to attend the competition?
The contest will not charge any fees to the participating teams. The organizing committee will provide relevant accommodation arrangements for offline semi-finals, finals, forums, entrepreneurial dinners, etc while the round-trip transportation needs to be covered by the participating teams themselves.

9. What support will the organizing committee provide to help the contestants?
The organizing committee will open a series of online entrepreneurial courses, including BP writing, elevator speech, etc. At the same time, the organizing committee will regularly hold an online "Office Hour" to communicate with the participating companies on specific issues.

Others Registration requirements
1. Participate by project or company, and it is highly recommended that the company founder or founding team member be the speaker.
2. The project must be a registered company or entity, with no restrictions on where or when it can be registered. The competition also offers support to international students or international teams that have not yet registered.
3. We recommend the companies with funding stages prior to Series B to attend, i.e. seed/angel/Series A/Series B projects, and cannot be a listed company.
4. The competition is open to VCs with overseas registered entities who wish to land their projects in China, especially within the Greater Bay Area.
5. The competition welcomes professors, researchers, and international students who have technology resources overseas and plan to return to China to start their own businesses.
Entry restrictions:
1. Projects that have been semi-finalists in the PHBS-CJBS Global Pitch Competition are not eligible to enter the competition.
2. Individuals or all members of the team must have no major dishonesty records, no criminal records, and abide by the laws of the People's Republic of China.
3. The project should comply with the relevant provisions of current Chinese laws and regulations, industrial policies, or plans. It should have independent intellectual property rights (no disputes) or key technologies related to the product or technology. And it should have a certain degree of innovation and commercialization potential.
4. If a project does not meet the entry requirements or falls into a category that is restricted to entries, the competition Organizing Committee reserves the right to suspend the competition process once it is discovered.
Others
1. The competition does not charge any fees to contestants.
2. Contestants should abide by the regulations of the competition. The submitted materials for the entrepreneurial project must not be plagiarized, misappropriated, or other illegal phenomena. Once found, they will be disqualified from the competition, or the bonus will be recovered. If the participating projects involve intellectual property disputes, all responsibilities shall be borne by the contestants themselves.
3. Participants should participate in the competition on a voluntary basis. If they have any objection to the competition, they may communicate with the competition organizing committee or choose to withdraw from the competition in time, but they have no right to ask the competition organizing committee to change the competition rules or compensate for any expenses.
4. The project materials will be open to the competition organizing committee, judging experts, and other relevant personnel.
5. In the event of force majeure affecting the normal conduct of the competition, the competition organizing committee reserves the right to make adjustments to the competition schedule or the format of the competition.
6. The Organizing Committee of the Competition reserves the right to further supplement the rules of the competition and has the final right of interpretation on matters related to the competition.
