PHBS's 2013 New Year Party

Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) hosted the 2013 New Year’s Party on December 22, 2012 at the Futian Shangri-La. The theme for the party and goal for the 2013 year was “Inheritance and Surpassing.” Guests of the party included Peking University Vice-Chancellor and Dean of PHBS, Professor Wen Hai, Deputy Secretary General of Peking University and Party Secretary of the Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Professor Bai Zhiqiang, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor Pan Feng, Executive vice president of the School of Information Engineering, Professor Wang Wenmin, Executive Vice President of PHBS, Professor Vincent Chang, Associate Dean of PHBS, Professor Weiwei, Associate Dean of PHBS, Professor Kong Ying, President of the HSBC Bank (China) Co. Ltd Shenzhen Branch, Mr. Ma Jian, Pingan Securities Vice President, Mr. Liu Qiuming, General Manager of Guotai Junan Securities Research Institute, Mr. Huang Yanming, Deputy Director of Southwest Research Institute, Mr. Zheng Zhiguo, and the Captain of the 42nd Army Training Unit, Captain Zhu Jiachun. Faculty, staff, alumni, full-time master’s students, international students, MBA students, and EMBA students also attended the New Year’s Party.

The evening began with a keynote speech from Professor Wen Hai, the Vice Chancellor of PKU and the Dean of PHBS.  In his speech he reviewed the great accomplishments of the past year, and described the school’s goals for the coming year. During dinner every class from the different majors came to the stage and gave a toast for the New Year wishing everyone health and happiness.

After dinner and toasts for the New Year, students marveled the audience with a variety of performances.  Performances included songs, choreographed group dances, break dancing, skits and a stunning performance of “Gangnam Style” by members of the PHBS staff and a PHBS faculty member. Those in attendance also had opportunities to win great prizes in drawing throughout the night. Overall, it was a wonderful celebration of the past year and a great way to start the new year.
