Liew Jia Yi

My time at PHBS was so much more than a degree; it was the experience of studying in the historic halls of Oxford one year and being immersed in the vibrant energy of Shenzhen the next. This incredible journey provided me with more than a world-class education; it gave me the best of both worlds which was a unique advantage no other university could offer. That, in itself, was my greatest education.

Beyond the unique structure of the academic programme, what truly enriched my experience were the people. The world-class faculty were not only experts in their fields but also incredibly supportive, always willing to guide me both academically and professionally. Furthermore, the opportunity to build a network of brilliant and diverse friends from every corner of the globe turned my cohorts into a lifelong global family. This combination of academic excellence and profound cultural exchange is what makes PHBS truly special.

I’m endlessly grateful for my experience at PHBS. If you’re seeking a postgraduate education rich in global perspective, PHBS would be the one just for you.

Studying for my Master of Management at Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) has been a truly remarkable experience. What made it unique for me was the chance to be fully immersed in an English-speaking academic environment, while at the same time living in China and experiencing its culture first-hand. This combination gave me the best of both worlds—global exposure and local insight.

One of the aspects I valued most was connecting with classmates from diverse countries and cultures. It broadened my perspective and sharpened my ability to collaborate effectively across different backgrounds. Through research, case studies, and different projects, I learned to structure my thinking more clearly and strengthen my analytical and problem-solving skills.

Beyond the classroom, I was active in the International Student Union, where I helped organize multiple activities and company visits that enriched life at PHBS for international students. These experiences gave me the opportunity to contribute to the student community, create meaningful events, and engage directly with innovative businesses in Shenzhen.

The professors at PHBS were not only outstanding in their fields but also approachable and generous in sharing their knowledge. Their guidance has been invaluable to my personal and academic growth.

My time at PHBS has shaped me both personally and academically, giving me lasting friendships, stronger skills, and unforgettable memories.

My two years at PHBS were a period of incredible cultural and academic growth. The Master of Management program strengthened my competitiveness in many aspects and broadened my understanding of management. By working alongside experienced professors and a diverse group of brilliant students in a warm and supportive campus environment, I received tremendous support from them and gained unique perspectives.

Beyond the classroom, living in Shenzhen was incredible; it offered a fantastic environment to live in and also provided a chance to go on adventures across China with my friends, embracing the Chinese culture.

My time at PHBS was truly the highlight of my life, it was nothing short of transformative. It was a rewarding journey, filled with so much fun that I will always cherish!

My experience at PHBS was wonderful. The school brings academic excellence, hands-on business experience, and leadership together in an inclusive international melting pot in Shenzhen, one of the youngest and most "cutting-edge" technology cities in China. When I reflect on my time at the school, a few words come to mind: community, symbiosis, and innovation. Each of these words emerges from the other.

Community is one of the distinctive features of PHBS, and it is evident that the school puts significant efforts into growing it. People from vastly different cultures work together to meet project deadlines, compete in sport events, or to organize events that would bring even more people together. During that process, cultural differences seemingly vanish, leaving place for symbiosis.

Apart from the people, the location plays a significant role. Shenzhen is a huge financial and technological hub in a one-hour ride from Hong Kong. Together with the strong community, it gives students opportunities to showcase their strengths in vastly different areas: from financial technology to corporate management. The city itself is very inspiring; every few months a new piece of technology can be found on the streets, giving a live example of innovation adoption.

Innovation, in my opinion, is yet another distinctive feature of the school. A strong community together with the city itself builds an open environment where new ideas can emerge. The school has various events and clubs that help students find people with similar interests and get the necessary exposure to try on new roles and responsibilities. This aspect is highly valuable, as it allows one to show their strong sides and focus on the things they really care about.

All these together create a transformative experience for students, teaching collaboration and independent thinking — skills so necessary in the modern world. I would highly recommend experiencing this journey and hope that even greater things are to emerge within the walls of PHBS in the future.

I applied to the PHBS Master’s in Finance driven by a deep curiosity to explore a completely new universe, far from the reality I had always known. Coming from Venice, Italy, I aspired to strengthen my academic preparation at a prestigious institution while embracing the personal challenge of immersing myself in an unfamiliar environment. The prospect of discovering China, with its millennia-old culture and dynamic modernity, fascinated me, and experiencing life in the bustling city of Shenzhen offered the perfect opportunity to witness its pioneering innovation as a young professional.

And now, after graduating, I realize that decision was one of the best of my life, not only for the knowledge I acquired but also for the truly transformative experience the Master’s program has been. When I think back to the person I was on the first day of classes, I can hardly recognize myself today, and all for the better.

At PHBS, you have the chance to deepen your academic preparation through classes and projects, while also gaining invaluable guidance from outstanding professors, inspiration from accomplished alumni, and lifelong friendships with talented classmates.

My time at PHBS has been among the happiest and most enriching times of my life, and I will always be grateful to the school for the opportunities and prospects it has given me.

Studying at PHBS was a unique academic challenge and one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had.

The Master of Economics programme combines a dual theoretical and empirical approach which allowed me to deepen my understanding of economics foundations and to develop my quantitative and analytical skills. The programme also offers a broad variety of elective courses and seminars that gave me the chance to pursue more specialized training in the areas of Economics in which I was more interested in. PHBS provides a multicultural atmosphere where you can meet people with different backgrounds from all over the world, and encourages you to build a global network.

Brandon Stefano

I applied for the Master of Management in PHBS with a goal to better understand the Chinese economy and immerse myself in the Tech capital of the East which is Shenzhen. I was assured from the beginning that Peking University will be the only place for me to be able to foster and develop myself in China and I felt I made the right choice.

During my studies, I get to meet amazing individuals which helped expand my network to not just across China but to other regions such as Europe and Africa. The diversity within the classes have always been the favorite part of my memory in PHBS. Aside from making friends, I could better understand the diversity of perspectives available especially through the well-crafted cases and assignments that the professors have provided me. My experience has been great throughout and I really cherish my time there!

If I was to get a Masters of Management in China, I knew that Peking University would be my top choice. The reasons why PKU and PHBS are renowned worldwide are reflected by the teaching staff. The professors are highly skilled and teach their courses passionately to not just transmit knowledge but also encourage us students to transfer the theories into practice.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have disrupted our lives in the middle of our studies, but PHBS still enabled us to continue them from all around the world. My time at PHBS was one of the most valuable experiences of my life that I do not want to miss. The struggle of integrating into a completely new system on the other side of the world has prepared me for any obstacles to come in the future. The product of all those experiences has shaped me to who I am today and I hereby want to thank my professors, PHBS and all of my peers for that.

If you are looking to challenge yourself in one of the world's most renowned universities, I can only recommend to come to PHBS.

Taking the Master program of Management at PHBS was a unique experience. Academically, the university provides a strong foundation by teaching courses such as financial accounting, marketing management and managerial economics. I was able to learn how businesses deal with problems and what is the best way to solve them.

Furthermore, PHBS curriculum allows students to specialize in a management area such as entrepreneurship, marketing or finance. The courses related to China provided us with the tools to understand it’s rapid growth and future business trends.

Besides the knowledge learned, what I enjoyed the most were the extracurricular activities and all the new friends I met. Many memories come to my mind, but the most important was being a part of the International Student Union. It helped me contact with headhunters and reliable job search websites that lead me to find an internship opportunity and get a job offer in China.

"I applied for the Master of Management because of the outstanding teaching personnel, the international environment and the opportunity to choose from a wide range of elective courses to specialise within the field of management. So far, all my expectations have been met. Faculty members are inspiring in character and expertise, thus encouraging constant improvement of one’s own capabilities.

The international student body helped me to build a network that spans the globe while at the same time, I developed an understanding of Chinese culture through the interaction with local students.

Lastly, the various elective courses have given me the chance to pursue my own interests rather than following a predefined list of business courses, which for me is the essence of postgraduate education. Even though I am far from home and I miss it from time to time, I do not doubt that coming to PHBS was the right decision for me to take."

The primary reason that I have chosen Master of Economics in PHBS was because of the diversity of the courses, which includes historical, political and sociological modules alongside pure theory and statistics. Indeed, its reputation of Peking University in China is needless to emphasize and its global presence is also rapidly thriving.

My time at PHBS was one of my most valuable experiences. Professors enlightened me with in depth knowledge regards to my field of study and resources and facilities, such as Bloomberg terminals, WIND and various other statistical software in financial lab, enabled me to access to all sorts of information.

So, if you’re searching for academic and extra-curricular excellence in the most energetic city in China, look no further than PHBS!"
South Korea, Class of 2019, Master of Economics
Gabriela Cooper-Vespa

I was attracted to the Masters of Management program at PHBS because it combined everything I was looking for in a postgraduate degree: an English-language curriculum at a reputable university with an international faculty, and a Chinese-business focus. Classes and life at PHBS have allowed me to learn valuable lessons about Chinese culture, institutions, and business interactions that have served me well as I have stayed in China post-graduation.

The academic highlight of my time at PHBS was completing my thesis on venture capital in China. It was no doubt the hardest academic challenge I encountered at PHBS, but it was also the process through which I learned the most. Thanks to the guidance I received from my advisor, Professor Kevin Chastagner, and other professors within the Management Department the final product is something I will always be proud of.
