This year HSBC Business School warmly welcomes 55 international students from 28 different countries to the start of a new academic year! Among these students, we have 46 full-time international students and 9 exchange students from our exchange partner schools.

The international affairs staff worked to organize a productive and beneficial orientation for our new international students. On August 21, international students registered with the help of staff and volunteers and received International Students Handbook that aimed at facilitating their application, registration and adaptation to the new environment in Shenzhen as well as a China Mobile SIM card, and other beneficial information. After registration, students applied for their Campus Card and Transportation Card, and later also enjoyed an IKEA shopping trip and a campus tour with the accompaniment of PHBS administrative staff Jean and Nicole. Overseas students are happy to feel the international environment on campus: bilingual signs, bilingual office work, western food such as Subway and New York Pizza, and the incoming Starbucks in new HSBC Business School building, etc.

Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School has always been dedicated to becoming a world-class international campus, attaching high importance to attract overseas students to study and exchange. Currently, HSBC Business School conducts English teaching in all majors, i.e. Economics, Finance, Quantitative Finance and Management. In addition, HSBC Business School faculty members are rigorously selected based (in part) on English proficiency. Ninety-five percent of PHBS faculty obtained their PhDs from renowned graduate schools in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, or Australia.

Since the first time admission of overseas students in 2009, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School has continuously increased the number of admitted international students. In 2013, HSBC Business School received 156 overseas applications, which is double the number of the previous year.

“None of the world-class universities only have domestic people to work and study”, said Professor Wen Hai, the Vice President of Peking University, Chancellor of Shenzhen Graduate School and Founding Dean of HSBC Business School. He emphasized Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School’s goal of becoming a world-class international campus to new students several times. In his opinion, a simple standard of a world-class international campus is attracting the best faculty and the best students to work and study. Students of Peking University graduate with the ability to view the world’s cultures with broad vision and an open mindset.
