Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) welcomed a distinguished delegation from the University of Strathclyde on November 13 for discussions on strengthening academic ties and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
The delegation was led by Professor Sir Jim McDonald, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, honorary professor at Peking University, emeritus principal and vice chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, former president of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and chair of Scottish Enterprise. Professor Hai Wen, vice chairman of the Peking University Council, founding dean of PHBS, and director of PHBS-UK, welcomed the delegation on behalf of the school.

The visit began with a tour of key PHBS facilities, including the PHBS History Exhibition Hall, the Data Center, and the Future Media Lab. Professor Hai Wen provided an overview of the school’s history, international strategy, faculty profile, and research achievements, highlighting PHBS’s commitment to global engagement and interdisciplinary innovation.

A commemorative gift exchange to mark the visit
During the subsequent meeting, both sides exchanged ideas for potential collaboration. Professor Sir Jim McDonald expressed strong interest in developing interdisciplinary initiatives integrating business, engineering, and technology. He also introduced Strathclyde’s recent achievements, current UK rankings, and strengths in its flagship disciplines.
Professor Hai Wen outlined PHBS’s global partnerships with leading universities and shared updates on the development of the PHBS-UK campus. He emphasized the school’s dedication to advancing international collaboration and welcomed opportunities for joint academic initiatives in the future.
