The Social Credit System as Method: Communication and Technological Imaginary of Digital China

Introduction: Haiqing Yu is Professor of Media and Communication and Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow at RMIT University. She is also a Chief Investigator of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society. She is a critical media studies scholar with expertise on Chinese digital media, technologies and cultures and their sociopolitical impacts in China, Australia and the Asia Pacific. Her current projects examine (1) language and cultural diversity in ADM: Australia in the Asia Pacific; (2) the social implications of China’s social credit system, technological innovation and digital transformation; (3) Chinese digital transactions in Global South; and (4) Chinese-language digital/social media in Australia.
