Comparing Communication Systems - The Internets of China, Europe, and the United States

The internet stands as the global communication infrastructure of the twenty-first century, half a century after its 1969 military origins in the ARPANET, and a quarter century after its 1991 public breakthrough as the World Wide Web. By the 2020s, the world has witnessed its reconfiguration into several different internets. This seminar takes stock of the internets of China, Europe, and the United States, reviewing the internet as the current centerpiece of communication systems encompassing one-to-one interpersonal communication, one-to-many mass communication, as well as many-to-many social networking.
