Abstract
Geopolitical rivalry between China and the US leads many in Australia to think the country must choose between its Chinese economic future and its American security guarantee. The common view overlooks both the size and density of win-win economic ties between China and the US that make war unthinkable and the fact that Australia benefits greatly from American investment in raw materials and energy destined for the Chinese market. This seminar will explore Australia-China-US economic relations in a pivotal year when Australia will chair the G20 Leaders Summit in Brisbane.
