On March 17, Peter Chang, Head of Human Resources, HSBC, gave a talk on career development and job hunting in China. Mr. Chang has rich experience in job interview and career development and shared his experience from Australia to China. He presented a brief picture of China’s job market, especially in the banking industry and provided HSBC as an example to introduce methods for job hunting in the commercial banking industry.

On March 26, approximately 40 PHBS visited Qianhai-Hong Kong Modern Services Industry Cooperation Zone, as well as the OCT Wetland Park, and SZZT Electronics Co, offering  the opportunity for students to have a face-to-face communication with the heads of related enterprises.

Focusing on China economy window model – Qianhai

The Qianhai conference was hosted by Qianhai Management Bureau Director Tao Peng, with participation by  Assistant Dean of PHBS, China Studies Professor Huang Haifeng, the Chief Inspector of Tencent HR Wang An, the Hong Kong PWC Copartner Zen Huixian, and the branch manager of the Bank of East Asia Chen Bing.

Mr. Tao presented “The New Opportunity of Qian Hai Bay” as the core of the conference, and during the presentation he introduced basic information about the Qianhai Special Cooperation Zone, major industries, policy strengths, and the prospect of future development.

A question was raised  about competition between Tencent and Whatsapp, as well as the marketing strategies in Italy, and Mr. Wang answered, “Facebook has just acquired Whatsapp, but it will face problems, such as how to turn it into a right business model, and Tencent has a comparative advantage over this aspect.  Tencent will establish an office in Italy. “

After the conference, Mr. Tao told a news reporter, “This conference is very meaningful. Peking University HSBC Business School has a deep connection with Hong Kong, and PHBS is dedicated to economic, financial and management academic research, as well as training business leaders.  Qianhai Special Cooperation Zone needs more cooperation with  international intelligence. Interactions with both sides are helpful to create a win-win situation.”

OCT Wetland park: Understanding China ecological development plans

The trip to OCT Wetland Park was a field investigation focusing on financial policy and green economy development. OCT Wetland Park is an ecological treasure area under protective restoration from the last century, and it is the only mangrove wetland that is located in the center of a modern city. After years of restoration, today the OCT Wetland Park is the “Green Lung” of Shenzhen. Staff  introduced students to the many species of birds and plants in the park and emphasized the importance of protecting these habitats. According to the Executive Secretary of PHBS Green Economy Research Center Wu Di, “Visiting OCT Wetland Park helped international students understand the importance of strategically planning to protect and sustain the ecology of Shenzhen and China.”

The road to explore the development of china’s private enterprise

Professor Huang led a group of international students to visit a representative private list company, SZZT Electronics Co.
