PHBS Completes the Acquisition of a UK Campus

After Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) exchanged contract with the Open University on acquiring a Oxfordshire campus on Feb.20th 2017, PHBS has completed acquisition recently.

To mark the handover, a completion ceremony was held in the afternoon on May 15th 2017.  Professor Hai Wen, the founding Dean of PHBS, accepted the key of the former Open University campus from Mr. Dorian Holloway, Head of Property and Regions of the Open University. The ceremony marked the official start of PHBS UK campus in the UK. There were more than 50 invited guests including members of the Peking University-Britain Alumni Association that participated in the ceremony to witness the memorable occasion, which was seen as a part of Peking University’s globalization development.

To mark its 40th anniversary of the Open University’s operation at its Oxfordshire campus, PHBS commissioned a special commemorative plaque which was gifted to The Open University during the ceremony. Professor Hai Wen and Dorian Holloway unveiled the plaque together, which will be displayed at the campus to serve as a reminder of The Open University’s presence at the site for over 40 years.

After welcome by Professor Liu Shaojia, Head of PHBS UK campus, Professor Hai Wen, the founding Dean of PHBS, gave a speech in highlighting the significance of the acquisition in terms of the history of Peking University (PKU) and its strategic plan for the future of PHBS. “PHBS UK not only will offer cross-border studying opportunities to students from China, Britain, European Union and other countries,” he said, “ but also it will strengthen the cooperation of PKU and PHBS with UK universities.”

Congratulatory speeches also were presented by, among others, Jin Xu, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, Richard Byard, Head of Enterprise Investment and Economic Development in Oxfordshire, Rosemary Maund, Chair of Boar’s Hill Residents’ Association, and Debbie Dance, Chair of the Oxfordshire Preservation Trust.
 
The PKU alumni in the UK, other stakeholders and interested parties discuss PHBS’s UK development
 
A round-table discussion on PHBS’s UK development was held after the handover ceremony. Professor Hai Wen, Professor Liu Shaojia, the PKU Alumni in Britain and other stakeholders and interested parties participated in the discussions, where recommendations were made by scholars and business people on the future of PHBS’s UK development. 
 
 Dean Hai visits Henley Business School during his stay in Oxford
 
During his brief stay in the UK, Professor Hai Wen also visited Mr. Wang Yongli, Minister Counsellor for Education at the Chinese Embassy, and other Chinese scholars and professors in the UK. In addition, he visited Mansfield College and Kellogg College in Oxford, and School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies, discussing opportunities for cooperation of PHBS with University of Oxford.
