The HSBC Business School of Peking University (PHBS) has entered into an academic partnership with the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). The partnership means that the curricula of two PHBS graduate programs, the MSc in Finance and the MSc in Quantitative Finance, align well with industry-recognized standards, and thus provides better opportunity for students to become globally qualified risk management professionals.

GARP is a not-for-profit organization and the only globally recognized association for risk managers. The association aims to advance the risk profession through education and the promotion of best practices. It offers certification for financial risk management leading to a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation, which is the most respected and widely recognized certification for financial risk management.

"FRM is a valuable designation that employers seek when looking for risk professionals.  It is often mentioned in job advertisements for finance professionals, especially those which focus on risk control” said Prof. Fritz Koger, assistant professor of finance at PHBS. “Such an academic partnership will play an important role in educating the next generation of qualified risk managers. Guided by experienced industry players and professional associations, our programs reflect the latest developments in the industry and help prepare our students to succeed in the ever changing finance industry.”

"GARP is pleased to announce the most recent addition to the GARP Partnership for Risk Education, Peking University HSBC Business School.  The Masters of Finance and Masters of Quantitative Finance programs provide their students with an excellent opportunity to hone their understanding of modern financial theories and their application in the management of risk.  Students pursuing these degrees should find themselves well prepared for the rigors of the FRM certification program and ready to embark on a career in the global risk management profession," per Dr. Chris Donohue, Managing Director - Head of Research & Educational Programs, GARP.

By teaching more than 70% of the knowledge required for the FRM exam, PHBS’ MSc in Finance and MSc in Quantitative Finance are structured to meet the growing demand for specialized finance professions including risk management. Given the breadth of these program offerings, PHBS has also formed an academic relationship with other professional associations such as the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA).
