An Executive Program for China's Business Leaders

HSBC Business School’s EMBA (Executive Master of Business Administration) Degree Program is tailored to suit the needs of senior-level management in the contemporary international workplace. EMBA participants learn scientific approaches to dealing with the financial and managerial demands of a managerial position while continuing to work full-time. The degree serves as a demonstration that EMBA graduates have had formal training in management education, and is the national standard for upper-level professionals from a spectrum of industries. As it is customized primarily for domestic, mid-level professionals, the EMBA program is primarily conducted in Mandarin Chinese.

Peking University HSBC Business School, as part of Peking University Graduate School, grants EMBA degrees to domestic and foreign senior management willing to dedicate their time and professional expertise to the academic program. In order to complete the degree program, EMBA students take part in intensive classes for four days each month for the duration of the two-year program. With the completion of the courses in addition to a formal dissertation, EMBA candidates are awarded the Senior Management Master of Business Administration degree.

Characteristics of the EMBA Program

The primary intent of the Peking University HSBC Business School’s EMBA Program is to prepare graduates for the unique challenges of managing a highly internationalized workplace. The coursework pays particular attention to global trends in operational management, and examines China’s changing role in the international market.

In the past few years, the EMBA program has invited many of the nation’s top economists and business gurus to explore the latest theories in economic, financial, and managerial studies. These speakers have included Mao Yushi, Li Yining, Fan Gang, Steven Cheung, Hai Wen, and Ma Weihua, among others. The program supplements these presentations by using local case studies to demonstrate these macro-level theoretical models being implemented in the workplace.

The importance for industry leaders in China to learn international management models has never been greater. China, and in particular Shenzhen, continue to attract more foreign capital and foreign members of the workforce. Likewise, Peking University HSBC Business School is composed of international faculty members, an internationally-trained staff, and a diverse full-time student body. The EMBA program brings further diversity to the PHBS community allowing the school to access the experience of the EMBA professionals. In this respect, EMBA students can interact with the full-time students for the benefit of both parties.

The PKU Shenzhen campus takes advantage of its proximity to Hong Kong, one of the world’s financial centers, to provide numerous research and case-study opportunities  for EMBA students. The school cooperates with the University of Hong Kong in organizing financial forums and coordinates a faculty exchange program with HKU as well. By maximizing the utility of local resources, HSBC Business School provides a strong base from which EMBA students can pursue life-long learning.

By adhering to Peking University’s long tradition of inclusivity and freedom of thought, HSBC Business School encourages students to challenge conventional wisdom and maintain a critical perspective throughout their education. EMBA candidates, equipped with work experience and leadership skills, can access their experience in the workplace to complement their formal education. In this regard, the EMBA program is a more comprehensive study into the real-life demands of an international workplace.

Currently, the EMBA Degree Program is conducted in Mandarin Chinese and attracts a wide variety of top business men and women from around mainland China and Hong Kong.  For detailed information on applying to the EMBA program please visit their website at: http://emba.phbs.pku.edu.cn/
