The City
Shenzhen is China's first Special Economic Zone, established in 1979. Located next to Hong
Kong, it is a center of innovation and entrepreneurship, and is home to the largest number
of Chinese private firms, such as Tencent, Huawei, ZTE and BYD. Each month, Shenzhen sees an
average of 40,000 new companies and over 1,000 new patents, and it is a home to 8,000 VCs.
