Consequences of Political Incivility: Evidence from Computational and Experimental Studies

Political incivility has been claimed pervasive on social media platforms and is still on the rise. However, its definition has been controversial, and thus the empirical findings of its political consequences. This seminar will introduce a series of empirical studies using computational methods and survey experiments conducted in the US and Hong Kong to examine the pervasiveness and consequences of exposure to and expressing political incivility on the internet and beyond.
