Abstract

Our study reveals interesting interplays between effectuation, causation, expertise and innovativeness. We offer two extensions to the current literature. First, causation is also practiced by expert entrepreneurs and second, the effect of effectuation on innovativeness is moderated by expertise. Our study uses a quantitative survey with entrepreneurs in Singapore regarding their use of logic and find that experienced entrepreneurs use causation logic, and that experience moderates the relationship between one dimension of effectuation (i.e., experimentation) and innovativeness.
